Question 1

Was $17,600 a good price for this 2017 MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS?

Accepted Answer

330 comparable 2017 MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS listings sold at auction for a median of $11,500, spanning $5,100 to $20,600. At $17,600 this one went 53% above that median. Auction prices reflect as-is condition, so the gap usually comes down to damage severity, mileage and whether the car runs.

Question 2

This MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS sold without keys — does that matter?

Accepted Answer

Yes, usually. A missing key means the vehicle often cannot be started or moved under its own power at the yard, so its condition is harder to verify and buyers bid more cautiously. Replacing a modern key and reprogramming it to the immobiliser typically runs into the hundreds. It is one of the more common reasons an otherwise sound car sells below its comparables.

Question 3

How much below its undamaged value did this MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS sell for?

Accepted Answer

The insurer put this 2017 MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS's pre-damage retail value at $36,042. It sold for $17,600 — 51% below that. A gap this size is normal for auction vehicles: the buyer takes on the repair cost, the paperwork and the risk that damage is worse than the photos show.

Question 4

How far is this MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS from an export port?

Accepted Answer

The lot sat at COPART in CA - SUN VALLEY. The nearest major vehicle export port is Long Beach, roughly 200 miles away. Moving a car that distance on an open carrier typically runs $250-$350, which is a real part of the landed cost and one reason identical cars fetch different bids depending on where they sit. Rates are indicative market figures rather than quotes, and rise with fuel prices and in winter.

Question 5

This MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS has vandalism and front end damage — how does that affect it?

Accepted Answer

Damage recorded in two areas usually points to a heavier impact than either label suggests on its own, and it raises the odds of structural damage behind the panels. The auction records the primary and secondary areas only; it does not assess the frame. Photographs and, where available, a physical inspection are the only way to judge how far it goes.

Question 6

Is 64,079 miles high for a 2017 MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS?

Accepted Answer

Comparable 2017 MERCEDES-BENZ S CLASS listings at auction averaged 86,676 miles across 330 sales, so at 64,079 miles this one sits 26% below that. At salvage auctions mileage moves the price far less than damage does — a low-mileage car with structural damage will still sell under a higher-mileage clean one.
