Question 1

Was $9,800 a good price for this 2016 MAZDA MX-5?

Accepted Answer

174 comparable 2016 MAZDA MX-5 listings sold at auction for a median of $4,100, spanning $3,200 to $6,300. At $9,800 this one went 139% above that median. Auction prices reflect as-is condition, so the gap usually comes down to damage severity, mileage and whether the car runs.

Question 2

How much below its undamaged value did this MAZDA MX-5 sell for?

Accepted Answer

The insurer put this 2016 MAZDA MX-5's pre-damage retail value at $19,294. It sold for $9,800 — 49% below that. A gap this size is normal for auction vehicles: the buyer takes on the repair cost, the paperwork and the risk that damage is worse than the photos show.

Question 3

How far is this MAZDA MX-5 from an export port?

Accepted Answer

The lot sat at COPART in FL - MIAMI. The nearest major vehicle export port is Jacksonville, roughly 200 miles away. Moving a car that distance on an open carrier typically runs $250-$350, which is a real part of the landed cost and one reason identical cars fetch different bids depending on where they sit. Rates are indicative market figures rather than quotes, and rise with fuel prices and in winter.

Question 4

What does "RUN AND DRIVES" mean on this listing?

Accepted Answer

RUN AND DRIVES is the auction's own condition note for this 2016 MAZDA MX-5. It means the vehicle started and moved under its own power during a brief check at the yard. It is not a mechanical inspection and says nothing about how far it would drive. Anything beyond that has to come from the photos and a physical inspection.

Question 5

Is 17,375 miles high for a 2016 MAZDA MX-5?

Accepted Answer

Comparable 2016 MAZDA MX-5 listings at auction averaged 64,787 miles across 174 sales, so at 17,375 miles this one sits 73% below that. At salvage auctions mileage moves the price far less than damage does — a low-mileage car with structural damage will still sell under a higher-mileage clean one.

Question 6

Who sold this 2016 MAZDA MX-5?

Accepted Answer

The listing seller was GEICO. Seller type is a useful signal: insurers typically consign total-loss vehicles, rental and fleet operators consign on a cycle regardless of damage, and dealers consign trade-ins they do not want to retail. Each implies a different history behind the same damage label.
